Although the Board of Control for Cricket in India i.e. BCCI has announced the Indian squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, the BCCI has a chance to change the squad till September 28. Meanwhile, the threat of getting out of the World Cup is looming over Indian team all-rounder Akshar Patel. If he does not recover in time, he may be out of the team.
Akshar Patel was injured during the Super 4 match of Asia Cup 2023. Due to this reason he was not part of the final and the team management had to call Washington Sundar from India. He played in the final. However, his batting and bowling did not work as Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 50 runs and India ended the match promptly.
Akshar Patel is currently part of India’s World Cup squad, but is unavailable for the first two matches of the three-match ODI series against Australia. According to a TOI report, if he does not play in the third match and fails to prove his fitness by September 28, he may be dropped from the squad.
Pakistan vice-captain may be out of World Cup 2023
If Akshar Patel does not recover from a hamstring injury, R Ashwin or Washington Sundar could take his place. Both of them have been selected for the three-match ODI series against Australia. Both will feature in the playing XI and the performer may get a chance to replace Akshar Patel in the World Cup 2023 squad.
