After the defeat at the hands of Bangladesh in the last match of the Asia Cup 2023 Super-4, Indian captain Rohit Sharma has said that he could not play the way he wanted to play in this match. With the upcoming World Cup in mind, India made 5 major changes to the playing XI against Bangladesh, these changes proved costly for Team India as they lost by 6 runs. However, this defeat did not matter to Team India as India have already booked their ticket to the finals of Asia Cup 2023. Along with this, Rohit Sharma also praised the Bangladeshi bowlers and Shubman Gill and Akshar Patel.
Rohit Sharma said in the post-match presentation, ‘We wanted to give the players some match time keeping in mind the bigger picture. We didn’t play the way we wanted in this match. We have included some players who are likely to play in the World Cup.
He continued, ‘Akshar batted brilliantly but could not finish. They showed a lot of character, but credit goes to the Bangladesh bowlers. Gill’s century was brilliant. He backs his game, he knows how he wants to play. He is very clear on what he wants to do for the team. Check out his form from last year. Very strong against the new ball. Really hard work, no alternative exercise for Gill.
Talking about the match, Bangladesh, batting first in this match, gave a target of 266 runs to Team India. Shubman Gill certainly scored a century while chasing this score, but he could not lead the team to victory. Apart from Gill, Akshar Patel also played a brilliant innings of 42 runs off 34 balls, but he too could not help the team cross the victory line. Shakib Al Hasan was awarded the player of the match, he played an innings of 80 runs and took the crucial wicket of Suryakumar Yadav.
