Veteran batsman Virat Kohli has said that he and his teammates are ready to give their best in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 at home so that the dream of Indian fans can come true once again. India has won the ODI World Cup twice and the team last won the title in 2011 when it co-hosted the tournament with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India won the title by defeating Sri Lanka by six wickets in the final played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Kohli is now desperate to end his 12-year title drought. The Indian team had earlier failed to win the title in Australia-New Zealand in 2015 and England in 2019. “The passion and support of the fans strengthens your commitment to win the World Cup,” Kohli told Star Sports. Memories of past World Cup victories, especially the historic victory in 2011, remain in our hearts. It is based in India. And we want to create new memories for our fans.
“I am thrilled to be a part of this amazing campaign, our fans are passionate about it and we are ready to give everything to make their dream come true,” Kohli said. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja also expressed his gratitude to Kohli. In he said, “As a cricketer, there is nothing more inspiring than having millions of fans standing behind you, cheering for your success.”
“This campaign reflects the passion and madness of our fans who want to see Team India win,” Jadeja said. “This is a journey that we will walk together with the whole country,” he said. And we are committed to our fans. Our performance on the field makes the fans proud.” India will begin their World Cup campaign against Australia in Chennai on October 8.
